Lighting Installation in Nassau County NY

Why electrical work in Nassau is not the same everywhere

Most people do not expect this part. Nassau County does not license electricians; the cities, towns and villages do, and each sets its own rules. Hempstead, North Hempstead and Oyster Bay work differently, and many villages add steps of their own. Inspections are often done by private agencies the town has approved, and PSEG Long Island wants an inspection certificate before it reconnects a new or changed service. Freeport and Rockville Centre run their own electric utilities, and the Rockaways need New York City permits.

That is why a lot of our job is explaining. Before work starts, we tell you who permits it, who inspects it and what the utility needs, so nothing about the process surprises you. Where your town requires a permit, we can obtain it. Our guide on who fixes what between PSEG Long Island and an electrician shows the same split we explain at the door.

How we work

  1. We listen and look first. You tell us what you see: which circuits, how old the house is and where the panel sits. We then assess the job on site.
  2. We give you the scope in plain words. If a repair is enough, we say so. If the panel or service really needs replacing, we show you why.
  3. Prices depend on the job. Every house and building is different, so we quote after the assessment rather than quoting numbers over the phone. Rebates and incentives, where they exist, may be available; we tell you what applies and do not promise amounts.
  4. We do the work, and handle the paperwork steps with you. That includes the permit, the inspection and the utility coordination where they apply.
  5. We leave the work area clean and the panel labeled.

Security and alarm work, done under the right license

New York regulates the installation of security and fire alarm systems, including some camera and entry systems, under General Business Law Article 6-D. All Done Electric Works holds the New York license for security and alarm installation, so we can wire and install cameras and intercoms ourselves. Where we work

Our home base is Nassau County. We serve Hempstead, Garden City, Freeport, Rockville Centre, Long Beach, Glen Cove, Oyster Bay, Levittown, Massapequa, Valley Stream, Mineola, Westbury, Great Neck, Port Washington, Syosset and Hicksville and the other communities across the county. We also serve New York City’s five boroughs, Suffolk County and Westchester County. For the full list of towns and how the rules differ, see our Nassau County electrician page.

What we will not do

  • Guess at a price over the phone for work we have not seen
  • Replace a panel when a repair would do
  • Skip a permit or an inspection that your town requires
  • Leave you unsure about who does what between us and the utility
